Our family has embarked on virtual travels to various countries and regions. To explore these countries and their cultures, we have followed along with the festivals, cooked and eaten traditional foods, learned of traditional handicrafts with hands on exploration, along with many activities to immerse ourselves. Chronicled here are some of these activities.

Our Weekend in a Nutshell

This past weekend, we celebrated my sweet nephew's 4th birthday. Sir T. had knights and princesses join him in a royal tournament that included catapults, sword play and archery. I had forgotten how energetic four year olds can be, and Elle, Pea and I were all exhausted once the party was over. The children seemed to have had a great time!

We also enjoyed our province's annual Open Farm Day, during which various farms throughout the province offer an open house, encouraging visitors with tours. We look forward to this day every year, and in the past we have visited so many wonderful farms: we have walked on a cranberry marsh, pet alpacas, learned about biodynamic farming, fed deer, (and goats, and sheep, and chickens, etc), seen all manner of heritage animals including highland cows, helped press cider, and been surrounded by bees at an apiary. In fact, we have been to so many of the farms, going to four or five each time, that there were very few farms left for us to explore this year! We did learn about the new superfood, the Haskap berry and learn how to grow hops. We enjoyed a wagon ride, and came home with a large quantity of squash as well as a few hay bales. Next year, we will have to revisit some old favorites!
